how long after having a baby can someone undergo gastric bypass surgery or lap band surgery?

Question by deldav360: how long after having a baby can someone undergo gastric bypass surgery or lap band surgery?
I was obese before I got pregnant and now i am terrified of living the rest of my life in this fat suit. I am 4′ 11″ and over 200 lbs. I have been able to restrict my weight gain during this pregnancy to 15 lbs so far. I am only 22 weeks and don’t want to put my babys health at risk by dieting.

You don’t want to put your baby’s health at risk by dieting? Believe me, your baby will thank you. Just talk to your doctor before hand, and don’t make drastic changes. I’m not sure how long you’d have to wait, probably not too long though.

I don’t think Judas fully read your question. You don’t have to diet, but you should visit a nutritionist for a really good eating plan for yourself. You probably don’t need to gain a pound, but rather exchange good weight gain while loosing the fat.

Most bariatric surgeon offices have one that could help you without seeing the physician at this point. My lap-band surgeon required you to post-baby at least 18 months before having the surgery. However, all surgeons are different, so are the insurance plans. Note, too, that you may have a12 month or so wait between the first call to schedule an appointment and actually having the surgery. Look up your potential surgeons on I bet you find other patients of the same surgeon there. Best wishes.

I had lapband three months after giving birth but all surgeons are different.

The information that I have gotten on Lap Band and Gastric Bypass, they prefer you wait for at least a year. Good Luck on your pregnancy.
