Removal of excess skin after gastric bypass surgery?

Question by glorydvine: Removal of excess skin after gastric bypass surgery?
Does anyone have any suggestions on where to get help with removal of excess skin after gastric bypass surgery? My insurance pays for gastric bypass, but not for the excess skin removal. Someone told me you could donate to the Shriners, but that’s not so. It has to be taken directly from live tissue & then used. Anyway,I can’t donate it. Anyone have any other suggestions?

A friend of mine just had this done, to the tune of $ 8500. She has a scar that runs almost 3/4 of the way around her waist. She had to have an implanted drainage device for two weeks. Her navel got infected after about 3 weeks and she needed another minor surgery to have that fixed. It was horrendous. After all of this, she is sooooooooo glad to have had it done. She looks wonderful! Congrats to you on your weight loss, and best of luck to you in whatever you decide to do about this surgery.

Your excess skin is not dead. It would turn color and begin to rot if it was dead. Quickly.

I was told that if you have infections caused from excess skin that most insurance companies will pay. I was also informed that some burn hospitals will accept WLS patients for their excess skin, (don’t know for sure, but maybe worth a try)
    Good Luck…
Call a plastic surgeon and find out if they could help you.
